LA BAILARINA DE LOS PIES DESNUDOS

Iba, en un paso rítmico y felino
a avances dulces, ágiles o rudos,

The Dancer with the Naked Feet

She went, in a step rhythmic and feline
In advances brisk, agile, and incomplete
With something both animal and divine
The dancer with the naked feet.

Her skirt was that of violent rose
And on her chest two shields meet
With starry things and cases clothed
The dancer with the naked feet.

A thousand delights from her breasts descend
Towards the pearl-belly’s sunkeness
And there began a thousand plans that will offend
The honey fig and the strawberry’s sweetness.

At the lake of my moving throne
Was my mutes’ and jesters’ abject fleet
All was Selene and Anactoria alone:
The dancer with the naked feet!
